Canada Day may feel a little bit different this year with most cities cancelling traditional firework displays and other festive events.
This year there will be a whole new way to celebrate our nation's 153rd birthday.
Ottawa Online
Ottawa will be hosting virtual Canada Day celebrations for everyone coast to coast. There will be midday and evening shows broadcast on Canadian Heritage's social media pages, CBC, and through Radio-Canada. There will be artist performances, virtual interactive activities, and much more to enjoy throughout the day.
Aurora At Home
In Aurora residents can show their Canadian pride by creating a Canada Day display at home. Get creative and decorate your front door, balcony, and windows with Canadian flags, artwork, and crafts to show your national pride. Snap a picture before June 29th and post it on social media with the hashtag #AuroraCanadaDay, tagging your picture on Facebook with @Town_of_Aurora or on Instagram with @TownofAurora to be featured in the town's Canada Day Instagram Story. Follow the Town of Aurora's social media pages and check their website for additional Canada Day activities.
The National Arts Centre
The National Arts Centre Orchestra wants you to join them in singing the national anthem. All you need to do is download the orchestra's audio track and record yourself singing the national anthem with the NAC Orchestra. Share your video on social media with the hashtag #ocanadasings and you may be included in the special broadcast on Canada Day.
Learn About Our Country's History
Even though the usual festivities have been cancelled, it doesn't mean you can't get outside and enjoy what makes Canada such a wonderful place to live. Visit a war memorial, go on a hike, or have a picnic at the park. If your city allows it, spend the day at the beach with your family. Even with limited celebrations, there is still plenty about Canada to enjoy.
While you're out enjoying Canada Day, remember it's still important to keep your distance from others and use proper handwashing practices. Protect yourself and those around you.
